Something to celebrate!

Although I wasn't working in the office today, I went in for about an hour because we were having a party in honour of one of the guests I work with. This guest passed his GED! He had this huge smile on his face. Due to accommodations required for writing, he had to write the exam over a period of 2 long days. A lot of work and coordination was required in requesting these accommodations, but it all worked out in the end. This guy has some serious mental health issues and suffers from extreme anxiety. He also has difficulty with sleeping. I worked with him on learning strategies that help in these areas. Of significance was that, when we all gathered around him to take the picture, he took off his sun glasses. He had used these as a way to cope with stress. He let his guard down with this group celebrating with him! This was a good day! It's nice to see progress in guests and it's nice to be able to celebrate their achievements with them! At the end of the party, he was already asking about other educational opportunities! Way to go!
