Disappointments and Good Cheer

As some of you know, when I signed on to work at the Mustard Seed, I agreed to not take time off at Christmas. However, last week, my boss told me I could go home for Christmas. She would take the heat if higher up people didn't approve. So, I looked into flights and passed the information onto my dad who was then going to book the flight through Airmiles. Well, there weren't any seats open through Airmiles. I guess it was really a long shot considering it's already November. He also found out that the cheapest flight to Winnipeg was over $700 with everything. That's more than double what I usually pay. So, I guess going home for Christmas is out. I'll have to see whether I can get a week off in early January. This was certainly a disappointment, but having the permission was an exception to the rule anyway, so I wasn't expecting to be there at Christmas. Hopefully, some kind family will take me in as one of their own this Christmas. And, if not, maybe I will just participate in the Seed activities when I am not scheduled to work.

The Good Cheer item is that while I was at my friends' wedding today, the father of the bride came up to me and said that he was going to donate to me 2 new batteries for my scooter! What an answer to prayer because the $300 that I know it costs to replace them was a bit of a concern and I knew I had to replace them within a month or so. Praise the Lord!!! This will enable me to continue to use my scooter as my vehicle to get to and from work when the weather isn't too frightfully cold. God really does place the right people into our lives at the right time.

The wedding, by the way, was beautiful. The groom was a friend from university whom I have gotten to know much better since being in Calgary. As a result, there were several people at the wedding that I knew from Winnipeg and Steinbach area. It turns out that one of the girls at my table ended up being my cousin's daughter who is only a few years younger than me. What a small world! The bride lives in Winnipeg and was from Calgary. I must say, though, that I can't believe how I keep on meeting people in the city of Calgary who are related to me or who I went to school with somewhere. And, half the time, I don't even know who they are! But they most often seem to know me!
