I was shopping the other day at Walmart. More like, trying to get around the corners without bumping into people with the HUGE Walmart scooter that goes BEEP, BEEP, BEEP, BEEP when I put it into reverse. Kind of like a garbage truck.
Anyway, I was near the sports section when I heard a father talking to his young son in Spanish. I heard this brief snatch of conversation. My first thought was, "Hey, I understood that!" Then, "Hey, that kid said it wrong". His father told him to look. The kid said, "Esta miranden". He was trying to say, "I AM looking". He should have said, "!Estoy mirando!" (I was trying to set the keyboard to Spanish for the upside down exclamation mark but it didn't work in this window). I was pleasantly surprised that I understood. It's definitely weird going to a store like Walmart and being able to understand things I probably shouldn't. Hehehehe. Wait until next time when there will be a really interesting conversation. A conversation where they are purposely speaking Spanish so that others won't understand. Then I can pull my little line that I used in the LAX airport with the woman who was ranting and raving in Spanish because she was upset that she had to help me. I said, "I am Mexican". She shut up right away! I wanted to laugh out loud right then and there! But she would have probably left me stranded.
