As I mentioned in a previous post, I went on a canoe trip on the Friday night of the conference. I went with a bunch of OT's and U of M OT instructors, 10 people in all. It was so beautiful. So peaceful. We had a really good time. It was much better than going to some boring museum with stuffed animals in it (like those trophy stuffed deer hunters put on their walls). Instead, I got to see real wild life and hear interesting bird calls.
Donna and I also saw a "dinosaur egg". I tried to take a picture, but it was blurry due to the low light. Ok, I'm sure it wasn't a real egg, but just a blue egg shaped rock.
And, there were a few items that didn't belong in the river ... such as a shopping cart.
By the end, we got caught in the rain. But it was worth it. I was so wet. Then, I still had to make it back to the hotel on my scooter. I was going back with others, so I couldn't go at its fastest pace. Oh well. The whole experience was good and fun. Even the part where we got stuck twice. And, where we had to go a few hundred metres against a strong current. Now I can say I canoed the Yukon River! (Ok, only 18.5 km of it). The other neat thing was we started the trip at around 8, maybe 8:30 pm. We were picked up around 11 pm. Although, somehow, it seems to me we only got back to Whitehorse around 11:30 or 11:45. Mind you, we had to get everything loaded up and the pick up spot was quite a ways from Whitehorse. I was back at the hotel by around 12:30 am if I remember correctly.
A Few More Pictures ...
