Whitehorse ... the first day

I'm in Whitehorse. We arrived at 1:30 yukon time last night. Or maybe it was more like 2. That's 2:30 or 3 Calgary time. The flight from Vancouver to Whitehorse was delayed due to a connector flight from Toronto not coming in on time. Some people didn't get their luggage, but at least mine arrived. I did see my bag getting unloaded and it dropped off the conveyor belt. My binder with my project info got broken. Nothing else broke, surprisingly, mind you, except for my make up bag that had a mirror in it, there was nothing else breakable. My scooter came in one piece except they had to take the basket off for transporting. When the shuttle bus guy put my scooter on the shuttle, he dropped one of the batteries. But, the scooter seems to be doing ok.

The hotel room is decent. It's non-smoking, so it doesn't smell too bad, unlike the lobby. The bathroom had a lot of little details to show they take care, such as folding the end of the toilet paper roll into a V and folding their towels into a shape. The bed is comfy. I slept well last night, despite a short night. I had to be at the Pre-Conference session by 8:30 this morning, although most were not there when I got there.

I went to McDonald's on my way to the session. The girl at the till looked puzzled when I ordered hot chocolate. She said they don't have any. I asked if they ran out or if they just don't have it at their location. She still looked puzzled and said they don't even have a machine for it. So I got a coffee instead. Then, on my way out the door, spilled some on myself.

Today was a good day. Beautiful weather. Warm and sunny, but not hot. The city of Whitehorse is hardly a city after living in Winnipeg or Calgary. I think Steinbach is bigger than Whitehorse. The town is very spread out. Old looking. Sleepy looking. But beautiful. I met some nice people. And, spent time with some of my educators from U of M. The pre-conference session was very helpful for me and has given me a lot of ideas on how to focus my practice. The Meet and Greet and conference registration is this evening at 7. So, now, I'm just relaxing in my room.

I'm looking forward to going out on my scooter to explore and take some pictures in my down time. Today, though, I won't have any pictures up.
